Hard drives and optical drives produce, by virtue of the spinning discs and platters, a significant degree of vibration and movement. This is transferred to the case, causing additional unwanted movement and vibrations. Getting these vibrations under control is a key part of minimising unwanted noise in a PC - especially undesirable humming or buzzing.In order to prevent said vibration from carrying over into the PC and minimise noise, drives should ideally be decoupled entirely from the case. In contrast to the majority of solutions out there, the universally compatible bay on offer here will fit in any 3.5" and 5.25" bay. Moreover, it is both quick and easy to install while remaining affordable to boot.
The traditional screws are replaced and vibrations are dampened thanks to the use of a rubber ring. This is either attached to the bay from the exterior or via the centre cut-out using a correctly sized opening. The second method is more efficient in terms of minimising unwanted vibrations since no direct metal-on-metal contact occurs and the rubber is better able to absorb said vibrations.
The screws are also usable with fans, PSUs and other components, as long as a compatible screw threading is available.
